Subject :-   Filling up of the post of Member (Technical) in the Customs, Excise   and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT).

 

Sir,

           

I am directed to say that some vacancies in the post of Member (Technical) in the pay scale of Rs.22,400-600-26,000, in the Customs,  Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal are required to be filled up from amongst the officers of the Indian Customs & Central Excise Service. The initial posting may be at any of the Benches of the Tribunal located at New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata & Ahmedabad.

 

2.         In accordance with the provisions of Section 129(2A) of the Customs Act, 1962, read with the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal Members (Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1987, a person is qualified for appointment as Member (Technical) of the Tribunal if he has been a member of the Indian Customs & Central Excise Service Group ‘A’ and has held the post of Commissioner of Customs and/or Central Excise or any equivalent or higher post for at least three years,  and has attained the age of 45 years.   The age of superannuation as Member in the said Tribunal is 62 years and the person appointed as Member shall remain on probation for a period of one year.  The other terms and conditions of the Members shall be governed by the CESTAT Members (Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1987.

 

3.         It may be noted that applicants who have already appeared twice for interview for the post of  Member (Technical) in CESTAT need not apply again as they  will not be called for interview. It is, therefore, requested that the vacancy may please be circulated amongst the eligible officers and the applications, along with their bio-data (as per proforma enclosed), vigilance clearance, cadre clearance and ACR dossiers, of the willing and eligible officers,  may please be forwarded to this Ministry through the cadre controlling authority within 45 days of the issue of this circular. The crucial date for determining the minimum age and qualifications  will be the last date for receipt of applications i.e. 28th February, 2008.

 

4.         Advance copies of application and applications received after due date will not be considered.   CBEC(Ad.II) Section  is requested to send the complete application forms along with all the ACR dossiers & necessary clearances by the closing date positively.
